About First Web

We are pioneering how digital technology can impact the world.

The First Web Foundation is a non-profit organisation legally registered in South Africa, with registration number 234-604 NPO.

Our ambitious target is to support 10,000 small, community-based, and under-resourced nonprofit organisations, social enterprises, and individual social influencers in Africa, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and beyond, by 2030.

Our typical beneficiaries and partners include individuals and organisations that are currently making an impact in their communities or have the potential to do so by utilising our free websites, social media management, and other related digital technology solutions, which encompass both web-based and mobile-based options.

Our mission is to support the social and nonprofit sectors in Africa and beyond in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing technical support, customised information, news, tips, and resources on the Internet, mobile technology, online fundraising, online communications, and social media.

Our vision is to be the premier online and digital technology resource for nonprofit professionals, social entrepreneurs, community workers, human rights advocates, community service providers, and nonprofit organisations in Africa and beyond, influencing inclusive development for the most marginalised communities.

Digital Empowerment

We believe every small nonprofit and social enterprise deserves access to robust digital tools that amplify their impact and connect them with supporters worldwide.

Community Partnership

We work with grassroots organisations as true partners, understanding that lasting change comes from within communities rather than being imposed from outside.

Inclusive Innovation

We champion technology solutions that are accessible, affordable, and designed with the needs of under-resourced organisations at the heart of every decision.

Sustainable Impact

Inspired by the UN SDGs, we focus on building long-term capacity and skills within organisations to ensure they can continue to leverage digital tools to sustain their work.

Our partnerships with stakeholders in the digital space benefit both sides: organisations gain access to authentic grassroots impact while the First Web Foundation extends its reach and resources to serve more communities across Africa and beyond. Here are the six main reasons you must consider partnering with us.

Access to Africa’s Growing Nonprofit Sector

Partner with us to tap Africa’s vibrant community of grassroots organisations that are driving real change but lack digital resources and global connections.

Proven Track Record in Digital Capacity Building

We’ve successfully trained and supported numerous small nonprofits in digital literacy, website development, and online fundraising, creating a measurable impact in underserved communities.

Cost-Effective Social Impact at Scale

Our remote-first approach and web-based tools enable partners to create a significant social impact across multiple African countries, eliminating the overhead associated with traditional programmes.

Authentic Community Stories

We facilitate unfiltered access to compelling, authentic stories from grassroots organisations that are tackling critical issues, such as food security, clean water, and healthcare in rural communities.

Low-Resource Technology Solutions

We specialise in creating digital solutions that work in challenging environments with limited internet connectivity, power, and technical infrastructure.

Strategic Alignment with the UN SDGs

Your partnership with us directly supports multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), demonstrating concrete contributions to global development targets by 2030.

We have a team of volunteers, known as Team Leaders, in several African countries who coordinate activities in their communities on behalf of the First Web Foundation. They often work in partnership with our strategic partner, Executive Edge Coaching and Training (EECT).
